Our own practice:
As well as supporting others in their socially and environmentally engaged practice, we undertake our own projects which bring together four different elements:
Design and facilitation of engaged process
Collaborative enquiry
Art production
Creative research
history
Established in 2023, Carreg Creative is a formalisation of ten years of Lindsey and Lisa working together to design, deliver and support socially and environmentally engaged creative practice. As well as delivering our own projects, we increasingly found that others have asked us to help them with theirs.
We are based in Eryri, North Wales.
We work bilingually Cymraeg - English.
Rates
Our rates are flexible, we want our services to be accessible, but also to be able to survive. Indicative rates are:
If providing services for an individual or community organisation or collective, rates are negotiated from £25 - £70 /hour
If providing services for an organization, rates would typically start at £360/day.
Principles
Cocreation - we work with, rather than deliver to. We will work within a Culture of Care, negotiating how we work together on each project according to the needs of everyone involved
Flow - We will work to timeframes that respect effective process, working in a way that creates the conditions for the unexpected to emerge, rather than aiming for fixed outcomes. What we deliver will be a real and authentic reflection of the process and project including unexpected results and documenting the twists and turns of the journey
Creativity - We will work with the functions of imagination to think outside the box, bringing creativity to even the tiniest things, questioning norms and trying out new things.
Learning - We will evaluate and learn as a continuous process, seeking to adapt and change as a result.

Tân a Llif – [sut i fynd] i mewn ac allan o’r cabinet: [how to get] into and out of the cabinet
Ar gyfer ein comisiwn, mae Carreg Creative (Lisa Hudson a Lindsey Colbourne gyda Wanda Zyborska) yn gwahodd pobl greadigol lle mae eu hymarfer yn canolbwyntio ar gydweithio, proses ac ymgysylltu, i gymryd rhan mewn ‘sgwrs chwilgar’ (ar-lein/yn Storiel). Bydd y sgwrs yn archwilio [sut i fynd] i mewn ac allan o'r cabinet. Sut gallai ein harfer ymgysylltiol fod yn berthnasol i oriel gelf gyfoes genedlaethol Cymru (gwefan Celf ar y Cyd) a chasgliad Storiel? Bydd y ‘sgwrs chwilgar’ hon ynddo’i hun yn rhan o, ac yn arwain at greu gwaith ar gyfer y cabinet a thu hwnt. Bydd rhan o'n gweithgarwch ar y cyd yn cynnwys gwahanol fathau o ddogfennaeth i [casglu? Cynrychioli? Gwneud yn weledol?] ac adlewyrchu ar natur a lleoliad y gelfyddyd ymgysylltiedig - sut mae'n amlygu neu gwireddu ei hun?
Os oes gennych ddiddordeb mewn cymryd rhan cysylltwch â carregcreative@gmail.com

For our commission, Carreg Creative (with Wanda Zyborska) are inviting creatives whose practice focuses on collaboration, process and engagement* to take part in a ‘curious conversation’ (online/in Storiel). The conversation will explore [how to get] into and out of the cabinet. How could our engaged practice relate to the national contemporary art gallery for Wales (Celf ar y Cyd website) and Storiel’s collection?
Our starting point for our ‘curious conversation’ will be:
Mappa Mundi by Paul Davies on Celf ar y Cyd website and Michael Iwanowski’s ‘Map according to You’ on Celf ar y Cyd
Tan â Llif (poster BECA) by Paul Davies in Storiel’s collection
This ‘curious conversation’ will of itself be part of, and will lead into the creation of work for and beyond the cabinet. Part of our collective activity will involve various forms of documentation to [collect? Represent? Make visual?] and reflect on the nature and location of the engaged art – how is it manifest?
If you are interested in taking part please contact carregcreative@gmail.com
[*The ‘outside the gallery’ nature of engaged contemporary practice often results in artefacts/art works as a parallel strand of collaborative, embodied activity which encompasses conversation, performance, film, sound and installation. These are difficult to ‘contain’ or represent within a ‘cabinet’, whether the cabinet of a website (Celf ar y Cyd) or a physical cabinet (at Storiel) and even within the ‘cabinet’ of the art world as a whole.]
Becoming Lichen - Simon Whitehead
We are the evaluators for Simon’s ‘Locator 32’ Arts Council Wales funded project, Becoming Lichen.
Simon is exploring ‘How might we learn of bodily/ interspecies collaboration and creative community from these mysterious and ancient beings? Attempting to notice and learn from these organisms and the places in which they thrive, to move as lichen is to combine our differences, to be together in ways that we couldn’t if alone, to make something complex, unusual, sustaining perhaps?’
Our evaluation process will be a series of noticings through the whole ecology of the project.
Wales Real Food and Farming Conference (WRFFC) 20-22 November 2024
Our project Wrth Wraidd - At Root - will be an experiment in introducing an arts strand to this annual conference to support WRFFC’s agendas of sustainability and climate justice in Wales’ food systems.
Rather than attending with our own agenda, our creative team (Siân Barlow, Ffion Jones, Elinor Gwynn, Lindsey Colbourne and Lisa Hudson, together with Iain Biggs (evaluator)) will be there to listen and engage in creative conversations, and see where they lead. We will make spaces and create interventions at the conference where people can reflect, question, imagine and test ideas creatively - opening minds and hearts to alternative ways of addressing the challenges faced in food and farming.
We will be exploring following questions together at the 2024 conference:
In what ways might creative practitioners work with those directly involved in food and farming in Wales?
(How) are the insights, skills and experiences of creative practitioners relevant to the work of creating resilient and sustainable food systems, in local communities and throughout Wales?
How can we develop trusting, working and enduring relationships that bridge across sectors - with joy and care?
