insects

Insects have almost disappeared. And very very quickly, except for the rise in tics which has been a huge increase.

Yeah, I’ve had so many tick bites this year. I heard it was because of loss of habitat, so the things that used to eat the ticks aren’t there anymore. But maybe its climate change - warmer and wetter weather? But also there is so much more bracken than there used to be. I wonder if anyone is looking into it?

Have you had midges this year? I think I’ve had one bite. It’s weird. I’m sort of pleased but I know its not good. Did you see that article - in the daily post last week - saying how to kill the flying ants if you see them? This is completely bonkers! They don’t even bite. Like if ants all died out, humans would only last a few months because they are like the foundation of everything. Honestly. It makes my blood boil.

I really hate wasps. What are wasps for? Seriously, do they do anything useful?

It’s been an amazing year for butterflies hasn’t it? I was thinking maybe because all those holiday homes aren’t cutting their grass and tarting up their gardens? And also the council hasn’t been cutting all the grass by the road. And less cars during lockdown. I drove to Bangor the other day and my windscreen was covered in insects again, like 30 years ago! Haven’t seen that for so long. That’s got to be a good sign.
